Roll 19

Film: Kodak Portra 160

For those of you who are new to my blog, I just started shooting film this past December after an 11 year break. I had no idea how many rolls I would shoot, or what type of photography I'd work with when it came to film.

As you can probably tell I've been shooting a ton of portraits with film and lately I've been doing some film only shoots. Once I started using it more, I fell in love with the look and feel of film. I feel I have more control of my images now since I do shoot everything manually. I spot meter my subject, select the shutter speeds and aperture and manually focus. I'm starting to see the the final images in my head when I shoot them. It's an amazing feeling to be able to truely create an image in this format.

I'm doing things a bit different with this roll. In the past I had only been sharing roughly 10 images from each roll, but lately I've gotten some requests to post the entire roll. Let me know in the comments if you want to see more of each roll, or if it's a bit overwhelming.

Roll 18

I'm pretty excited about this roll! I love taking my film cameras around to just document my experiences. You'll see that these are a mix of places I went and people I spent time with.

I had been dying to shoot at Everlanes new space. I was invited to a private event to see their new showroom and to learn more about the process of how they produce some of their products. Their space is a photographers dream!

I also checked out the Pace Gallery to see the Teamlab exhibit. It was a stunning visual display of art and technology. I was amazed how well the Kodak Portra 400 handled the low light conditions. I will say though, it was a bit difficult to focus the Leica in such low light conditions!

I'd love to hear your thoughts down in the comment section and which image was your favorite!

Roll 17

Film: Kodak Portra 160

You guys are probably wondering if I'm going to shoot anything besides Kodak. Well I must say I love Kodak films and have most of my life. I find I just love the colors, especially with the Portra series. I would love to try some new films though! I'm always open to any suggestions you guys have and you can leave those in the comment section.

This roll is all about Emma! I absolute love working with her because it's just effortless and as you can see she helps create beautiful images. You'll be seeing more of her in future rolls!

I've really been enjoying shooting more and more film during my portrait work. I love slowing down and thinking over individual shots and also involving the subject more with capturing an image. Lately my film shots have become so special to me and intimate that it's difficult to even share them. I just want to keep them for myself! Lately when I've been getting my scans back I just can't believe the emotion and memories that come back in these images. Many of next few rolls are some of my favorite photos I've ever taken.

P.S. Let me know in the comments what your favorite image is from this roll!

Roll 16

Film: Kodak Portra 400 +1

When I get rolls like this back from the lab, I think to myself this is why I shoot film! One thing I can't get over when I look at film photos is the emotion it is able to capture. It's as if the images have a soul, a cinematic feel that they will come to life.

This roll is basically split into two halfs. The first half are shots from the Beach Blanket Babylon Musical I attended, but I've decided to only share a couple images since I am writing separate blog on the  experience.

The second half of this roll was shot with the beautiful model, Emma Anita. Emma was visiting from out of town and I planned two locations that I thought would suit her look and would guarantee amazing shots. We first shot at the Conservatory of Flowers, which is one of my favorite spots in the city. You'll see much more of Emma in the next roll!

I'd love to hear what your favorite image is down in the comment section!

Roll 15

I love how film takes me around this beautiful city of San Francisco. No matter where I go or who I'm with I like to have my Leica M7 by my side. One thing I love about film is every occasion makes for a great film snap.

One of my favorite shots from this roll is of a friend I met through Instagram. Ana Maria and I originally got to know each other from a postcard project I did through Insatgram and I'm pretty sure she's the only person I know who is from Aruba! I was super excited when she told me she'd be in San Francisco for a couple days. We met at Sutro Bath for sunset and went to dinner. I love how an app can bring people together, even from such tiny countries like Aruba!

Hope you guys enjoy this roll! Let me know what your favorite is down in the comments. It's always nice to see what film shots you guys like the best.
